Doug Bloodworth (American) is considered one of the premier photorealistic artists of the time. He enjoys evoking the viewer’s nostalgic feelings of one’s childhood, be that in comic books, games played, or comfort foods. His artistic perspective is influenced greatly by his childhood affection for American classics, resulting in oil paintings that are smooth, refined, and incredibly convincing. Read More
In 1974, Doug earned a degree in Commercial Arts and went on to work in several genres of the art world before finding his niche. Painting iconic works on billboards all over the country was a highlight early on in his career, and he still draws from the inspiration and lessons learned during that time.
From candy, to comics, to elements of nostalgia, Doug Bloodworth has managed to capture the iconic American Dream and ultimately our hearts with his paintings. His process is not a quick one, however. “First I get a rough idea what to depict, then my wife and I set up still lifes and light them with low lighting to produce long shadows,” Bloodworth said in a phone interview. “Then I take 20 to 100 photos, all the while rearranging and changing the lighting. My painting is a collage of information from a lot of different photos.”
Very popular due to the few artists actually practicing photorealism, Doug has artwork represented in select galleries throughout the United States, as well as private collections.
