M & I Garmash

M & I Garmash - Michael's and Inessa's techniques, their warm and exciting colors and the subtle romantic, but simple approach to their subjects, are the reasons why their original impressionistic style paintings as well as their hand-embellished limited editions, are sought-after by collectors throughout the art world. Michael and Inessa Garmash are a husband and wife team. Both work on the same piece, which is extraordinarily unique in the art industry. Together they create a classic impressionism that remains both beautiful and timeless.

Today, Mr. and Mrs. Garmash are considered two of the finest Romantic Impressionists of our day. Their incredible talent is only matched by the stories of their love and career. In similar fashion to the determination of his artwork, Mr. Garmash courted his future wife, after seeing her for but a moment, by painting her image all over her hometown while she slept. She immediately recognized the passion with which this man cared so dearly and married him shortly thereafter.

The Garmashes began their artistic collaboration in much the same way. Several years after their marriage, Mr. Garmash began a painting of their two-year old daughter, Polina, for a project at school. However, Polina found the painting during her father’s absence and decided to embark upon her own artistic career. Ms. Garmash, after seeing what her daughter had done and not wanting her husband to be upset, fixed the painting using her own training, packed it up and gave it to him for submission. Mr. Garmash submitted the painting for review and was praised for completing his best work ever. He was surprised to see the "new" painting and immediately recognized his wife's hand. They have painted together ever since.

Their story is truly one of out of a fairy tail. During his stint in the army, Michael returned to his former school on a two-week vacation. The last day of his visit he met Inessa at a bus station; the next day Michael didn't return to his division. Inessa woke that day to her image painted all around the city surrounding her house, on the road, on the walls of buildings and the walls of her apartment staircase. Michael had spent the night painting; he was arrested first by the city police, then handed over to the army MP's, but he was not punished. (Even military personnel can sympathize with true love!) One year later, Michael and Inessa returned to the same bus station. Michael hung a bouquet of flowers on the station sign to commemorate the place where they met; the beginning of their "at-first-glance" love story.

Since then, Michael and Inessa have worked together creating paintings, stained-glass windows, mosaics and drawings of beaches, children and music. They have exhibited in Sweden, France, Russia, Ukraine, Belgium and Finland. Their art can be found in select fine art galleries throughout the United States and Europe. They continue working with their daughter Polina as a model and occasionally include themselves in their compositions.

Although they call St. Petersburg, Russia home, Michael and Inessa Garmash, along with their teenage daughter, Polina, travel together at least four to five times a year. Their adventures have taken them around the world, through much of Europe and the United States. The pair traveled to Napa Valley, California to visit friends who live there and they fell in love with the beautiful country side immediately and had to create a piece of art with this scenic view as a backdrop.

Their fall visit coincided with the annual grape harvest in the vineyard. The timing was magical as they were able to see the beginning of the transition of the grapes becoming wine. The timing was magical as they were able to see the beginning of the transition of the grapes becoming wine. Winemaking can be compared to painting because the harvest is like putting the first brush stroke on the canvas, creating an excellent wine is an ancient and respected art form.

Michael and Inessa Garmash took everything they fell in love with in Napa and created “Promise” which captures the sensation they felt perfectly. From the warm sun to the play of the light on the vineyard to the breeze in the air, you can “feel” Napa Valley all around you.

    Vladimir Volegov Biography:
Born in Khabarovsk, Russia, Vladimir began painting at the age of three. Gifted from the start, his talent would be noted repeatedly throughout his adolescence and beyond. After attending the Art School “Krivoj Rog” and serving in the Russian army, Vladimir was admitted to the Lvov Polygraphic Institute in the former Soviet Union.

Beginning in 1984, Vladimir began participating in—and winning—international competitions for poster art. He moved to Moscow in 1988 and before long, his career in commercial art was in full swing. Notable Russian publishing houses sought his talents to design posters and album covers for musical groups. While working with the publishing houses, he continued to work on his paintings and participate in exhibitions.

In 1990 Vladimir began traveling to Europe where he earned money by painting portraits on the streets of Barcelona, Berlin, Vienna, and other European cities. It is with this experience that he further honed his skills in depicting the human form. Over the past fourteen years, his art has evolved into the striking figurative work he creates today. Vladimir’s vibrant color palette and bold strokes coalesce to create evocative images that possess a timeless sensibility.

In February of 2004, Vladimir Volegov signed a long-term contract with American publishing house Soho Editions, bringing his beautiful artwork across the Atlantic. His paintings are highly desired and can be found in select galleries and collections throughout the world.
