Vincent George began the path to becoming a professional artist very early in life. Growing up in Newburgh, New York, he found inspiration from his artistic family and the rolling hills of his northern home. He would often use brown paper bags retrieved from the grocery store to fashion mock-canvases that would serve as the perfect surface for charcoal.
A lover of the outdoors, George often spent time during his youth hiking with a sketchbook in tow. Not long after beginning this hobby, sketching began to take precedence over the outdoor activity itself, and at 14 he began using paint to embellish the rough sketches he brought back from nature. By the age of 17, creating works of art became Vincent’s top priority and his fate was sealed.
George attended the Savannah College of Art and Design briefly before obtaining his Bachelors degree from The Pratt Institute where he studied Illustration and Communications Design. After graduating, he took a position near his hometown as an illustrator and industrial designer and took odd painting jobs on the side, though his dream of painting full-time wouldn’t become a reality for another two years. By moving back down to Georgia, he was able to reunite with nature and its many vibrant elements, reinvigorating his need to create.
“Regardless of where I live or what I’m doing, I always come back to visual art in the end. For me, transferring the gorgeous scenes in my head onto canvas is not merely a means to make a living. It is an extension of myself; a necessary and delicate process I ultimately could not survive without.”
Vincent George’s work is highly sought after and is displayed in galleries throughout the United States and abroad.
