Luis Montoya & Leslie Ortiz Popliteo Biography

Luis Montoya and Leslie Ortiz are a team of artists who create beautiful, larger than life bronze sculptures of fruit, vegetables, and shells. Working together for over 25 years, the pair of artists explore everyday items, allying the artistic traditions of Dutch 17th century still life and 20th century pop art. With a delicate sense of humor, they offer us surrealistic bronzes that recreate the subject on a hyperbolized scale, meanwhile crafted with intense attention to detail, form and color. "By changing the scale and slightly exaggerating the form we hope that we have helped the casual viewer to look differently at an object as mundane as the common apple and see how truly sublime it really is".

Leslie Ortiz (b. 1957) - Born in West Palm Beach, FL, Leslie studied at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam, Netherlands and later at Boston University School for the Arts in MA where she graduated Magna Cum Laude in sculpture.

Luis Montoya (b. 1950) - Born in Madrid, Spain, Luis followed his art studies at the School of Fine Arts of San Fernando, Madrid, where he received his BFA and MFA. Later he went on to the Castellblach Foundation, Independent Study in Florence, London, and New York, and finally completed post-graduate art studies in sculpture at Kent State University, OH.
