Russian artist, Alexander Volkov, combines a lifelong fascination with architecture, landscape and still life subjects. He brings drama and poetic expression into his photorealistic artwork with a unique vision. By combining mood and atmosphere, his art brings forth powerful emotions that create harmony. Volkov is a Russian-American oil painter who was born in St. Petersburg in 1960. He attended a special English school and in 1986 graduated from the Department of Physics at Leningrad State University. During college, Volkov began exhibiting with a group of Leningrad artists known as the “Brotherhood of Experimental Arts” in 1981. This group was a collaboration of underground art groups active in Leningrad during the 80s. Following graduation, Volkov worked as an animator at Leningrad Studio of Science Films and as a stage artist for a small theatre.Taking his varied background and art experience with him, Volkov moved to the US in 1990 and has worked as a teacher since.

Volkov’s photorealistic paintings can be found in selected fine art galleries across the United States and Europe.
